Our History
The Colombian Air Patrol - Antioquia (PAC - ANTIOQUIA) is a non profit organization comprising private and commercial pilots with the participation of health professionals. Founded in 1965 in Medellín, Colombia by Octavio Mejía Mejía, Camilo Alberto Mejía, Henry Duperly Cano, Ignacio Acevedo Alzate, Ligia Rodriguez Jaramillo and promoted by Ernesto Isaza Robledo.
During its more than 42 years the PAC - ANTIOQUIA has benefited more than 750,000 persons with health programmes in the more remote areas of the country (such as Arauca, Vichada, the Urabá, and Pacific Coast and others).
Within the activities carried out by the organization during its history the under noted should be highlighted:

Family Medicine in Urabá
Between 1985 and 1995, sponsored by Augura (Asociación de Bananeros de Urabá) - Association of Banana Producers of Urabá, a Family Medicine Programme was carried out, aimed at providing basic medicine to the families of the banana growing workers and the lower income families in the urban core of the area benefiting around 250,000 people.

Arial Health Programme - Arauca
In June 1987 the basic health programme was started (general medicine, dentistry and Laboratory Assistance). This benefited approximately 25,000 people spread over 22 hamlets in the Departamento de Arauca.

Arial Health Programme - Vichada
From June 1989 until December 1990, with the same aim and activities as those of the Programa Aˆ©reo de Salud - Arauca, a further 20,000 people from 23 hamlets were treated. This programme was financed by
the Plan Nacional de Rehabilitación and the Lotería de los Territorios Nacionales - (National Rehabilitation Plan and the Lottery of the National Territories).

Programme of Associate Members
This group, made up of volunteers from different health related professions, since 1965 has benefited more than 250,000 people in various more needy areas of the country, with education, prevention and assistance programmes.

Specialized Medicine Programmes
Since 1992, PAC - ANTIOQUIA has devoted its self to consolidating and increasing the specialized medicine programmes aimed at benefiting those with complex pathologies, and those who have difficulty in accessing the services of more complex hospitals in the larger cities.
Until the 31 st of December 2006, 73.049 specialized consultancies and 24.230 surgical interventions have been carried out in towns and villages of Antioquia, Arauca, Bolivar, Caldas, Caquetá, Cauca, Chocó, Córdoba, Guajira, Nariño, Santander, Vaupés, Vichada and others.

INPEC Programme
As of May 2002 until December 2005 PAC-Antioquia offered their services to three of the main prisons in the Metropolitan Area of Medellˆ‚n (Bellavista, Buen Pastor and Penitenciaria Nacional de Itagˆºˆ‚), with very good results. During this period we performed: 201 Pterigium Surgeries, 127 General Surgeries, 84 Ophthalmologic Consults, 531 Ophthalmologic Consults, 75 Ecographs y 47 Endoscopes, amongst others .
